Introduction

Following the success of the Plant-Based Gastronomy: Tales of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Heritage event launched in January this year, SLYCAN Trust and Meatless Monday Sri Lanka are excited to host an event on World Vegan Day 2024. This event will feature a captivating 20-minute video showcasing plant-based culinary stories from Colombo, Galle, Jaffna, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya. The footage will blend highlights from previous trailers with insightful interviews conducted by our team, all narrated to guide the audience through an immersive journey of Sri Lanka’s rich plant-based heritage.

The event will have a panel discussion discussing ‘Innovating Menus and Experiences - Shaping the Future of Hospitality Through Plant-Based Heritage,’ featuring travel & hospitality leaders. This collaboration offers a unique opportunity to spotlight the cultural and historical significance of plant-based cuisine in Sri Lanka while engaging a diverse and influential audience.

Objectives

1. To showcase Sri Lanka’s plant-based culinary heritage of plant-based cuisine from diverse regions of Sri Lanka, including Colombo, Galle, Jaffna, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.

2. To strengthen the commitment to sustainable, plant-based dining that reflects the flavours and stories of Sri Lanka's plant-based traditions.

3. Foster awareness of plant-based heritage and sustainability among attendees, encouraging a deeper understanding of Sri Lanka's culinary culture and its role in sustainable living.
