The Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) is an aspirational goal established under the Paris Agreement amidst concerns about the accelerating pace of climate change and the inappropriate scale and speed of current adaptation efforts. It calls for, “enhancing adaptive capacity, strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change, with a view to contributing to sustainable development and ensuring an adequate adaptation response in the context of the temperature goal referred to in Article 2”.
The Glasgow-Sharm el Sheikh work programme, a series of eight workshops over two years from COP26 in 2021 to COP28 in 2023, provides an opportunity for Parties to discuss and operationalise this global goal and an associated framework. The eighth and final workshop will take place at the end of September - Parties will next meet at COP28.
SLYCAN Trust is organising a webinar with the aim of supporting building convergence among Parties and key stakeholders related to the GGA process through knowledge products.
The event will consider the four focus areas proposed by the UNFCCC GlaSS secretariat for the 8th Workshop on the GGA, and seek inputs from Parties on areas of possible convergence. Structure of the framework, Means of Implementation and possibilities for further work beyond COP28 will be key discussion points.
