Niger

Niger is a landlocked country in West Africa, with a population of over 24 million people, most of whom rely on agriculture and pastoralism for their livelihoods. The country is considered one of the poorest in the world, with high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and poverty. Niger is also among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, with an arid and semi-arid climate that is highly sensitive to variations in rainfall and temperature.Climate change is already having significant impacts on Niger, with recurrent droughts, desertification, and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. These impacts have led to widespread loss and damage, including crop failures, livestock deaths, and water scarcity, which disproportionately affect vulnerable groups such as women, children, and rural communities. In addition, climate-induced loss and damage in Niger have also led to human mobility, with many people forced to migrate within the country or across borders in search of better livelihoods and opportunities.
