In the face of increasingly intense and complex climate risks, there is a need for urgent action. Climate change acts as a stressor that exacerbates insecurities and conflicts, and components related to security and conflict impact resources, livelihoods, and long-term resilience. Finance plays a key role in addressing the security-climate nexus and its interlinkages, with the potential to lead to significant positive or negative impacts.

Integrating policy and planning processes on security and climate change offers several strategic opportunities to bridge silos or avoid negative feedback loops and trade-offs. However, the complexity of the nexus and its internal and external dynamics require deep knowledge of relevant thematic areas and cross-cutting aspects, such as finance, technology, and innovation.

This publication as part of SLYCAN Trust’s work programme on security, climate change, and environment seeks to contribute to a holistic and evidence-based understanding of the role of human mobility in this nexus, identify priority gaps to be addressed, and explore solutions that unlock synergies in the context of multilateral and regional policy processes.
